Who is this God that we serve? Understanding His Majesty, Power and Glory Part 1

You are listening to:Who is this God that we serve? Understanding His Majesty, Power and Glory Part 1

He created everything!

Genesis 1:1-3 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light”.

Psalm 19:1-2 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge”.

In the midst of His creation, God created two unique things to display His Power, majesty and glory

  1. The Galaxy – the whirlpool galaxy alone contains 300 billion stars; Our sun is our star – 10,000 degrees F on the service, 93 million miles away; takes 8 minutes for that light to travel at speed 186,000 miles/second; In light years that is 5.88 trillion miles; The sun is a million times the size of the earth.
  2. Man – Even though we are but a vapor, tiny and frail, we are marked by majesty and have been created in the image of the God who breathed out stars. The Bible says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

God holds everything together and you owe your very life to Him

Nehemiah 9:6 You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made”.

We are not the result of random chance, with no purpose

Hebrews 11:3 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible
Old sermon on science contradicting faith

Your purpose is to display His greatness and to give Him glory

Psalm 139:13-16 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be”.

Everything belongs to God

Deuteronomy 10:14  “To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it”.

Job 41:11  “Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to me”

Psalm 24:1-2 “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters”.

Psalm 50:9-12 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, 10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. 11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.

We are stewards – your very body, your time, your money, it is all His to be used for His glory, not for your own. How would you like me to use this house, this car, this money? He is also the sustainer – if he were to turn away, all would perish. We live and breathe and move by his sustaining power

Colossians 1:15-17 “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together”.

Job 12:10 10 In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind

Job 34:14-15 “If it were his intention and he withdrew his spirit and breath, 15 all mankind would perish together, and man would return to the dust”.

Hebrews 1:3 “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word”.

He is like the laminin

Laminin is a Protein molecule – a cell adhesion molecule – it holds everything together, it’s a cross; stuff that holds our body together is in the shape of a cross

The laminins are a family of glycoproteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding in almost every tissue of an organism

The purpose of creation is for the glory and good pleasure of God. It is to manifest his greatness and receive from us the honor and worship that is due Him. God IS worthy. Since he is most beautiful and valuable of all things, it is right for him to give us that gift of worshiping and enjoying Him.

Psalm 33:6-9 “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm”.

Psalm 8:1-4 “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?”

Revelation 4:11 11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being”.

Psalm 148:1-14 “Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens, praise him in the heights above. 2 Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly hosts. 3 Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars. 4 Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. 5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for he commanded, and they were created. 6 He set them in place for ever and ever; he gave a decree that will never pass away. 7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, 8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, 9 you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, 10 wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, 11 kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, 12 young men and maidens, old men and children. 13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. 14 He has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his saints, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the LORD”.

Psalm 150:6 6 “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.
To bless God is to acknowledge in our hearts His greatness and to confess His greatness in praise. He does not need it; it is for us”.

Psalm 33 – star-breathing God, he spoke and it came to be, he commanded and it stood fast; from heaven the lord looks down and sees all mankind, watches all who live on earth.

The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, to deliver them from death. I will carry you through any and all circumstances you face. How can I know he will hold you together?

God always has a purpose through every circumstances

Isaiah 40:26-31 “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God”? 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint”.
